“You can (almost) make everything”
This is not just a slogan. It is even a course “How to Make (Almost) Anything” in MIT ran by Dr. Neil Gershenfeld , the founder of FAB LAB, Scholar, Professor of MIT, letting student execute the concept.
Even “The Economist” describe it causes another wave of industrial revolution and twisting the consumption practice because of digital fabrication, new media arts has been making use of it - even with this concept from the age of dada. By crossing discipline, artist experimenting all kinds of possibilities with digital fabrication in art creation, turns Transcoding into real but not a concept in a book, transforming media, and medium.
While digital fabrication is getting much more on the ground and hands-on, the power of fabrication hand-over back from factory to artist, feedback the life of digital age, stimulate millions of methodology on art creation.
And it creates different possibilities: Digital Sculpture, Big Data Physicalization, Interactive Fabrication, Wearable Fabricatoin: It’s not a trend of art, it is, itself, form of art.
"ART.FAB.LAB" is a project with Fab Lab and exhibition. By exhibiting artworks of artist, embedding Fab Lab and Artist-in-LAB, showing the how's the maker culture and digital fabrication intervene in art and design creation. With also workshops and seminars, let public join in and involve in the creative process, promotes the maker culture and digital fabrication and how it applies to area of art and design.

This is not simply a free-for-visit open laboratory. From hardware of digital fabrication, the space, how it turns into a workshop of artist, the process of how Artist-in-LAB making artwork, meeting different people: these all are part of the exhibit, it’s an experience, it’s brought by the age of digital fabrication.

這不是一句口號 ，而是 FAB LAB 概念的創辦人，麻省理工學院的教授，物理學家 尼爾.格申斐德博士 ( Dr. Neil Gershenfeld) 在 MIT 開設的一門學科 “How to Make (Almost) Anything” 去讓同學們實現這個概念 。
然後當數位製造 (Digital Fabrication) 被The Economist形容為新一波工業革命而衝激消費社會，新媒體藝術的創作早就掛起了這旗幟，並在達達主義時期已經開始發酵進行。結合了跨媒體，藝術家和創作人以數位製造進行各種前衛及實驗的藝術創作，把新媒體創作的「能量轉換」特性化成現實，在不同媒體之間交互轉化，將聲音轉換成畫面，將畫面轉換成聲音。
而數位製造的愈趨在地，創造的權利再一次大量回歸到創作者手上，並精準的化成實體呼應數位生活，催生無數新型的藝術創作方法。
當實在的素材成像過程立體地到逹藝術家手上，立體藝術作品的創作發生了種種可能性：數位雕塑 (Digital Sculpture)，大數據雕塑 (Big Data Physicalization) ，互動雕塑 (Interactive Fabrication)，穿戴雕塑 (Wearable Fabrication) 這些在數位藝術發生之後、數位製造熱直捲的時代大量湧現。
《藝術．製造所》結合了 Fab Lab 和 展覽， 通過展出各藝術家的作品、Fab Lab的植入、以及駐場藝術家， 展示自造者文化及數位製造技術如何介入藝術及設計創作，並通過工作坊及講座等活動， 讓公眾參與在創作過程中，推動自造者文化及數位製造應用在文藝創作領域之中。
