"Straw in the wind" new media art installation response to one of the event of Taiwan Month in Hong Kong "Dining Project in Straw Field", it extends the care of landscape, food and dining. Through the kinetic installation arts, combining with technology, humanity and social concern, showing to Hong Kong how Taiwanese consider and treat their land as well as how they concern the community and society with various kind of self-initiated activities .
By using the concept of the wind from Taitung to Hong Kong, it captures the real time data of wind speed and direction of Taitung, and transmit to the kinetic sculpture located in Hong Kong over the internet, and the kinetic movement feedback and react to the wind data.
It borrows the real time data of the wind: wind speed and direction provided by Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan, and the data from four areas of Taitung: Taitung, Cheng Kung, Lanyu and Dawu. And the set of captured real time data will then be transformed into kinetic movement of the installation in Hong Kong, the stronger the wind, the bigger the kinetic movement ; the direction of the wind, the movement direction of the installation. The movement of straw represents the wind from Taitung to Hong Kong over Pacific Ocean, it's a metaphor of bringing the beauty of Taiwan to Hong Kong by the event of Taiwan Month.

“稻浪隨風”裝置作品的創作呼應本次香港台灣月活動之一”稻田裡的餐桌計畫”，延伸來自於對土地、食物與飲食的關懷，藉由新媒體藝術的機械裝置，結合科技、人文與社會關懷，讓香港市民能感受及理解台灣對於土地的認識以及各種社會與自主運動的內容。
作品以台東的風吹向香港的概念呈現，即時擷取來自台東當地的風向與風速數據，透過網路傳送到香港展場的稻草機械裝置作品，影響稻草機械裝置的運動方式，稻浪運動象徵來自台東的太平洋之風的自然吹拂至香港，如同台灣月的活動將台灣的美好傳遞到香港。
“裝置借用了台灣中央氣象局的實時風速及風向數據，當中分別來自四個台東的地區：臺東、成功、蘭嶼和大武。這些擷取了的實時數據轉換成在香港的機械雕塑的動態：風速愈高，裝置的動態更快；裝置的動態方向也是來自台東地區的風向。
*本裝置所用稻草紙為台灣南投埔里老字號紙廠「廣興紙寮」的手工抄製楮皮稻草紙。
