NUIT BLANCHE
TAIPEI 2017
2017
(2017)
Nuit Blanche is an annual all-night arts festival originated in Paris and takes place the first Saturday night of October. The city of Paris invites the public to explore new aspects and depths of the city by making contemporary art accessible to the mass audience. The original concept of the Nuit Blanche is deeply connected with the urban innovation and public space design.
In 2016, Taipei joined the worldwide celebration of creativity and hosted the very first Nuit Blanche of Taiwan, which was passionately received by the public and attracted over 200,000 people participating on the streets. In 2017, the Nuit Blanche is moving further to the southern end of Taipei city, Gongguan, where independent culture and avant-garde movements have thrived during the last few decades. Responding to the rich cultural complexity of the area, cross-genre, cross-culture and cross-generation artworks and performances are interwoven with the narrow alleys and independent spaces into a glowing web of arts.
As the cultural activities of Gongguan area has centered around the National Taiwan University, a great amount of artworks and activities will light up the Royal Palm Boulevard all night long. Walking through the University Plaza at the front gate of NTU, which has witnessed the youth of many generations striving for freedom and justice, one enters the streets of Wen-Luo-Ting. The rebellious spirits and sophistic aesthetic merge into a unique cultural atmosphere here. Activities crossing the boundaries of performing art, performance art and digital art invite the public to participate and party together on the plazas around Taiwan Power Company. At the other end, various local cultures meet on the dazzling stage truck in the Hakka Cultural Park. The park was originally designed by the Japanese as sports leisure park one hundred years ago, and has become the back yard of all citizens living in southern Taipei. This night, people could bring a stool from home and sit to watch the play or look over the river bank, to regard the water of Xindian river that carries the urban memories of politics, culture, history and industries.
Nuit Blanche
